Empowering Visually Impaired
Children in Rwanda

Together, we're building an inclusive future—one white cane, one Orbit Reader, and one child at a time.

What is the Tugendane Initiative?

The Tugendane Initiative is a national campaign dedicated to empowering visually impaired children in Rwanda through mobility and learning tools. By providing white canes, Orbit Readers, and sunglasses, we're helping children move freely, access quality education, and live independently. With the support of grassroots organizations, corporate partners, and government institutions, Tugendane is more than a campaign—it's a movement to ensure no child is left behind.

Why We Do This

In Rwanda, over 400,000 children live with visual impairment. Most lack access to the tools and learning environments they need to succeed. Mobility challenges and limited educational materials leave many children isolated and unable to reach their full potential. Tugendane is changing that—by putting essential tools directly into their hands.

"1 in every 100 Rwandan children is visually impaired." — World Health Organization (WHO)
